A story of growth & community impact: Windrose Animal Hospital

When Windrose Animal Hospital partnered with Veterinarian Partners in 2022, they had a clear vision: grow their services and team while maintaining the strong culture and identity they’d worked so hard to build.

Just a few short years later, Windrose has accomplished all of that and more.

"...supported those goals every step of the way..."

“My primary concern was the continuation of Windrose’s culture and long-term vision. Veterinarian Partners has supported those goals every step of the way, enabling consistent growth while preserving our identity.”

A thriving practice

Since joining the Veterinarian Partners family, Windrose has experienced remarkable growth, both in patient visits and community presence. With a nearly unprecedented year-over-year increase in visits, Windrose’s reputation for excellent, compassionate care continues to attract new clients and strengthen existing relationships.

To keep up with demand, Windrose expanded its urgent care services, operating successfully with two dedicated urgent care doctors and already planning to add a third. Since the partnership began, six new DVMs have joined the team, including two new graduates, two urgent care veterinarians, and a new Medical Director as Dr. Cailyn Pease took the reins from founder Dr. Skalos, who now serves as a Regional Medical Director for Veterinarian Partners. This transition showcases Veterinarian Partners' commitment to fostering leadership opportunities and professional growth within their partner practices.

  • The right kind of support

Veterinarian Partners provides support in recruitment, marketing, and business operations, with a high-support, low-touch approach that lets local teams lead their medical and cultural decisions.

  • Value Creation Plan

Veterinarian Partners develops a tailored Value Creation Plan (VCP) for each practice—and they follow through. This isn’t a one-size-fits-all or ‘rubber stamp’ partnership. Their thoughtful, individualized approach is rare and incredibly impactful.

Expanding services & reaching new patients

Windrose has also expanded its offerings to better serve their community by introducing acupuncture, exotic pet care, and urgent care services—meeting more diverse needs without losing their personal touch.

The practice’s connection to their community remains a point of pride. From partnering with the Pittsburgh Penguins (you might even catch the mascot visiting the clinic!) to supporting local festivals, organizations, seniors, first responders, and military families, Windrose continues to go above and beyond for the people and pets of Pittsburgh.

Personal & professional growth

For Dr. Skalos, partnering with Veterinarian Partners also allowed him to step back from the daily grind and focus on the future of Windrose. He can now focus on strategic growth and business development without the financial stress of running the practice alone. Additionally, these changes created space for improved work-life balance.
